For over 20 years, Marie taught and performed Salsa-on-One, Rueda, and Latin percussion. With this background, she understands the underlying concepts of Salsa dance and music, encouraging her students to become solid with foundations while developing their own style. This leads to ease of learning complex moves, while creating confidence on the dance floor and in performance.
Marie’s introduction to Salsa was through attending Latin Jazz concerts in Olympia, Washington in 1993, which sparked an interest in studying the conga. After 7 years of study, she founded an all-woman Latin Jazz septet and entertained at private and community events for 5 years. Occasionally, a Salsa couple would show up, inspiring her to take Salsa lessons at Seattle’s Century Ballroom.
In 2003, Marie opened a Salsa dance and music company, and for 10 years brought dance and music education and performance to private and public events, community workshops, dance studios, high schools, and colleges.
Marie also taught at an Albert Torres Salsa Congress, and trained with Billy Corado, World Champion and resident of Dancing with the Stars in San Jose, Costa Rica.
Marie is now in Santa Fe, New Mexico, bringing her style of Salsa-on-One, blended with influences of the dance forms she has explored over the years: Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Brazilian Samba, Afro-Cuban, Rueda Casino – into a fun, clave-driven style that supports the students to learn the foundations and find their own expression, enjoying a style that is uniquely their own.
