salsa instructor training

The Salsa Instructor Training program is designed to be specific in Salsa and Rueda foundations, yet encouraging creativity within the application of what can be used with the material learned, such as:

  • a brain break in the school classroom
  • a fun ice breaker for gatherings of people
  • training for students who will go on to learn other Salsa styles or social partner dancing
  • encouraging social skills and respect of others
  • developing self-confidence

The Training program is for couples up to large groups, and can be for a one-time workshop or a series of lessons. There is flexibility within the structure, depending upon the goals of the participants.

latin percussion lessons

If you want to improve your understanding of Salsa music – a key to social salsa dancing – it is recommended to explore Latin Percussion. As the dancer learns the different instruments, they begin to hear the music in a different way, and their dancing becomes as part of the band – almost as another instrument of the band -opening them up to increased creativity and self-expression.

Here are the instruments – any of them will help to learn the foundations of Salsa music:

  • conga – hand drums
  • clave – two thick sticks clapped together
  • maraca – two small gourd shakers
  • guiro – large gourd with ridges to scrape
  • bell – cowbell and stick
  • palitos – two sticks on a wooden block

The lessons can be an overview of the different instruments, or more in-depth training. If you have a group of friends that want to learn, form a drum group! There are many rhythms that have 3 congas, a bell, and palitos – and of course, clave is the foundation of all!
